May 15th, 2018(Nyamilepedia) —- Citizens of South Sudan’s Mundri East County, who have lost trust in the government, are protesting attempts by the army to extract them from deep in the forest to return to their houses.
Within the last two weeks, SPLA forces, who were stationed at Buagyi of Mundri East county intensified campaigns to extract citizens from the bush and left them by the roadside with orders to return to their previous houses.
While some of the extracted residents claim that their houses are either occupied by the army or destroyed by the conflict, other residents said they don’t trust the government soldiers and allied militias any more.
According to the SPLM/A(IO) governor of Midwest State, the SPLA-IG extracted more than 3000 civilians and left them vulnerably exposed at Buagyi roadsides with intention to attract humanitarian assistance.
“As of today, more than three thousand people have been forced out of bush and are on the road sides of Buagyi and Mideh, suffering without food, shelter, medicine and clean drinking water.” Said the Major General Lavirick Liwa , the SPLM/A(IO) Governor of Midwest State
“This government action is intended to force UN to give relief food to the suffering population at Buagyi and they will later take this food from people by force and give it to feed the South Sudan government army.” Gen. Lavirick continued.
“This is a serious violation of ceasation of hostilities agreement and human rights.” He added.
The Midwest IO governor calls on the International Community, IGAD and the UN to take immediate actions to rescue the suffering populations.
“It is worth mentioning that civilians at Bangolo, Medewu, Bari, Karika and Kotobi who have escaped to the bush because of torture by South Sudan government army are currently suffering in the bush without food,shelter,medicine and clean drinking water. They are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.” General Lavirick said.
“We are asking UN and IGAD to intervene and take immediate action to stop these” he concludes.
