South Sudan Thrashed Cameroon to Maintain Perfect Track Record in Group B

July 3, 2022 — South Sudan Basketball team has done it again, beating Cameroon 67 – 56, to maintain a perfect track record in their pursuit to secure their ticket to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

This is the second time South Sudan Bright Stars has defeated Cameroon within the last 4 months. On February 27, 2022, South Sudan defeated Cameroon 74 – 68 winning by a margin of 6 points.

The South Sudanese Basketball team, which has proven undefeatable, has won all the six matches in group B and continue to maintain a perfect and consistent performance in a death row group that include the reigning African Champions, Tunisia.

To many, who have watched the rise of South Sudan basketball under the leadership of Luol Deng, a two-time All-Star and 2011-12 All-Defensive Team playmaker, had no doubt that South Sudan would thrash the Cameroon side for the second time.

On Saturday night, South Sudan thrashed the reigning African Champions, Tunisia, by 75 to 61 points to settle harsh rivalry between the two countries.

Five months earlier, South Sudan caught Tunisia off-guard, defeating the champions by 72-64, a margin of 8 points difference.

Tunisia came into the Saturday night game hoping at least to avenge the February 26th deficit but instead of closing the gap, the Champions spiraled down the hills, losing the hard fought Saturday night game by a greater margin of 14 points.

Speaking after defeating Tunisia, Nuni Omot emphasized that South Sudan has no limit, they are shooting for the moon and the stars.

“Honestly, I don’t think we have a limit, I mean, we are shooting for the stars and the moon. I mean, honestly, I feel like we have so many guys who are capable of doing something each night and that’s why we are very dangerous.” Nuni Omot said.

“I feel like our versatility, every single night, we have several guys, who can do spectacular things”. Omot added.

On Friday night, South Sudan dispatched Rwanda in the presence of the Rwandese president, Paul Kagame, to secure its ticket to the second round of the FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers, defeating Rwanda 73-63 at BK Arena.
