May 15th, 2018(Nyamilepedia) —Residents of South Sudan’s Yei River County have accused The SPLA (IG) of killing at least 10 civilians this morning in Yei River County.

Reports from Yei River County indicate that the SPLA “brutally massacred 10 civilians” this morning at Goli of Tore Payam.

“Today, 15, May 2018, ten innocent civilians have been brutally massacred by the SPLA at Goli in Tore Payam of Yei River County.” Said an eyewitness on condition of anonymity.

The eyewitness said that among the ten victims were two primary school students, two internally displaced persons from Mundri and three security guards of the Emmanuel Christian College.

“The victims include two pupils, two IDPs from Mundri, three guards of Emmanuel Christian College among others. They were mercilessly murdered in cold blood when the SPLA soldiers from Tore center sneaked out and inhumanely attacked the mentioned area.” the report continued.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia,  Wayi Godwill Edward, the spokesperson  in the Office of the SPLM-IO Governor of Yei River State, condemns the tragedy calling it a violation of the Cessation of Hostility Agreement which the warring parties signed in December 2017.

“It is shameful that such a condemnable tragedy continues to happen at the hands of Juba regime at a time when a Cessation of Hostilities Agreement to which it (Juba) is a party, is in force, and peace process is ongoing.” Said Wayi Godwill Edward, the Spokesman of Yei River States’ governor.

“Filled with indignation, SPLM-IO leadership in Yei River State demand CTSAMM to investigate and verify this gross violation and hold those criminals behind the blatant act to account for this uncalled for loss.” Wayi continued.

The spokesman calls on the International Community to take appropriate actions against peace and human rights violations in South Sudan.

“We also call on the UNSC, AU, IGAD, Troika, EU, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other rights bodies to exercise their responsibility by taking actions against the brutality and criminal negligence of the rotten regime of Kiir against defenseless civilians.”  Said the spokesman.

At the time of this report, Juba was yet to investigate the incident and respond accordingly.
