September 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudanese officials have been told by the United States that the removal of the country from the list of State Sponsor of Terrorism is complicated, a senior government official said on Monday.

Sudan’s Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok said in August that he asked the United States to remove the country from the list of State Sponsor of Terrorism to which it was added in 1993.

Hamdok as well had sought a $10 million loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank to rebuild the country’s fragile economy.

Speaking during a news conference in the capital Khartoum on Monday, finance minister Ibrahim al-Badawi said US officials told them that the process of removing the country from the terror list is complicated and usually takes between 9 months to a year.

“American officials have informed us that removing Sudan from the U.S. terrorism list is complicated because it is tied to Congress and could take nine months to a year,” al-Badawi said.
