Kitgwang faction denies demanding Dr. Machar’s position

Nairobi, Kenya.

October 7,2021—The leadership of the Kitgwang Declaration under the command of the former Chief of General Staff of the SPLA-IO, 1st. Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, has denies reports that they are demanding for the position of the  First Vice President post and other opposition portfolios as precondition to negotiate with government.

Responding to a document that has been trending on social media and published by media houses including our very own Nyamilepedia, the former chairman of the now defunct National Committee for Information and Public Relations, and un-official spokesman of the Kitgwang Faction, Capt Mabior Garang de Mabior,  cautions the public not to pay attention to the alleged document.

In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, Cde. Mabior, who joined Kitgwang Faction in August, claims that the document is not authentic and as such he begs the public to ignore it.

“Fellow South Sudanese, the Defunct National Committee for Information and Public Relations would like to caution the public not to pay attention to a fake document forged by the enemies of Kit Gwang”, Cpt. Mabior warned on his Facebook page.

According to Cde. Mabior, who has been a victim of unclassified documents,  the widely circulated document was a forgery designed by the unnamed elements he referred to as “enemies of Kitgwang”.

He asked the public to treat such informations as a ” mischief”, adding that people should wait until they make their position in form of a formal communique.

“Standby for the real position paper which will be made Public tomorrow”,the defiant senior opposition member requested.

Mabior reiterated that the Kitgwang faction is not seeking for a re-negotiation of the revitalized peace agreement but they are demanding for full implementation of the security arrangement.

“The Kit Gwang Declaration’s negotiating position is categorically Security Arrangements. We are not calling for the renegotiation of the Agreement”, he said.

Capt. Mabior has been vocal on how the country is run since 2011 and has since joined the SPLM/A-IO since early 2014; however, he is now discontented with how Dr. Machar, who aspired to be a better alternative to replace Kiir, has ran the SPLM/A-IO for the past seven years.

Two months ago, Mabior and a few other politicians including Machar’s deputy, Hon. Henry Odwar, joined the Kitgwang Declaration with hopes that they would make a difference; however, the leadership of the breakaway faction is proving to be more militarized and rigid compared to Machar led group leaving Mabior and other politicians with very little space to pursue their political ideologies.
