Dec 3, 2014(Nyamilepedia) — Members of SPLM [in Opposition] from Chapters across United States of America finalized their mini-conference on 29th November, 2014.

According to SPLM-IO Representative to the United States of America, Reath Muoch Tang, the conference was convened at the request of Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the Chairman and C-in-C of SPLM, to involve the Diaspora in the long awaited Consultation Conference to be held in Pagak, South Sudan.

“Acting on the request of the Chairman of the SPLM and c-in-c of the SPLA, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the SPLM/A In-opposition Chapters in the United States of America; have held a very successful conference at Omaha, Nebraska, on November 29th 2014; with participants drawn from all over the continental United States.” Muoch said.

The SPLM in Opposition is convening a mega-conference for the first time since the civil war broke out in December, 2013, to consolidate the views of both the political and military wings of SPLM-IO in response to IGAD-led Peace Agreements and as well to the radical position adopted by the SPLM-Juba faction.

According to Reath Muoch, the USA-SPLM chapters’ conference has discussed at length all the issues that would be tabled at the SPLM/A consultative conference in Pagak, South Sudan.

The former Member of Parliament added that the Conference observed the principles of democracy and autonomous decision making processes in line to the wider scope of the resistance movement.

“The conference deliberations were conducted in a very frank and free democratic atmosphere that was devoid of coercion or intimidation as the participants deliberated over all the issues at stake in the ongoing peace process between the government of South Sudan and the SPLM/A in- opposition.” Muoch said.

The chapters filed and submitted their final resolutions for consideration in the Pagak conference.

“The conference concluded with the passing of a number of resolutions concerning the peace process which were sent to the SPLM/A consultative leadership conference in Pagak.” Reath Muoch concludes.

The Pagak conference, which was to commence last week, is yet to be started as some delegates and military wings representatives experience delay.

The resolutions of the rebels’ conference are eagerly awaited, especially by the SPLM-Juba faction, which has convened a mini-conference in Juba, last, month.

The government conference has rejected two armies arrangement, federalism, and powers sharing protocols that were agreed in Addis Ababa last month.

President Salva Kiir, instead, calls for an early election as Juba prepares to intensify military operations in Upper Nile region in an attempt to end the conflict.

The Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Gen. Kuol Manyang and Paul Malong Awang, the Chief of General Staff for SPLA-Juba faction, have recently graduated a new batch of over 3000 recruits with hopes to defeat the Opposition in Upper Nile region.

Violations of COH agreements have been widely reported in Northern Jonglei state counties, which the government now claims, however, most parts of Jonglei State remains under the SPLM-In Opposition.
