9th July 2021 – His Excellency, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, the First Vice President of the Republic of South officiates the Great Run Marathon, organized by the South Sudan Great Run Association under the theme “Let us Run for Better Future of South Sudan” at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum, Juba, South Sudan.
The event was attended by H.E. Dr. James Wani Igga, Five Presidents for Economic Cluster; H.E. General Taban Deng Gai, Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster; H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster; High Level Government Officials; and representives of the Diplomatic Corp and Mission in South Sudan.
Addressing the gathering at the event, His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has congratulated the people of South Sudan for the country’s 10th independence anniversary.
Dr. Machar stressed that, South Sudan’s 10th independence anniversary has been marked with the Marathon which has brought together over thousand participants from all states of the country and abroad, with a shared objective of promoting peace, unity and co-existence among the our people.
In addition, the First Vice President has emphasized the importance of the Marathon, owning to its immense physical and mental health benefits, as such, he encourages the South Sudan Great Run Association to organize the next marathon in each state and administrative areas in the country.
He also noted that South Sudan has promising sprinters that can represent the nation in local and international competitions.
His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar has pledged the Government’s support for sport as it use as a tool to promote peace and unity.
In his final remark, H.E.the First Vice President, calls upon the people of South Sudan to preserve peace, as it’s the only way to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves toward peaceful, prosper and united South Sudan.
