May 29, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Murle, a small tribe in South Sudan’s Upper Nile region, has gone international for its massive raids of cattle and abduction of children from the neighboring Nuer and Dinka tribes, however, the abduction of children is taking a new turn with appointment of David Yau Yau, a clergy-turned-general politician.

With overdue threats from Ethiopian army after killing of nearly 200 people and abduction of about 100 children, Yayyau has gone to work in Murleland and recovered over 60 children in a matter of a few days.

According to the latest report, David Yauyau, who was appointed last month as the Deputy Minister of Defense and Veteran affairs, has recovered 63 Ethiopian children and safely handed them over to Ethiopian government while the rescue mission continues.

“Meanwhile, recovery of more children abducted from Gambella is ongoing and 7 more children have been recovered so far bringing the total to 63.” Said Lul Ruai.

As part of reports released yesterday by the Military Spokesman of SPLA-IG, Brig Lul Ruai Kong, Yauyau has also returned 4 South Sudanese children abducted by the Murle between 2012 and 2016.

“SPLA’s Republican Guard Division recovered four children abducted by Murle raiders in separate raids on different villages. One former abductee is from Greater Akobo and most like from Uror County whereas three are from former Greater Central, Eastern Equatoria States. The children were abducted between 2012 and early 2016.” Lul Said.

The reports have confirmed that majority of the children were recovered in Yau Yau’s hometown of Gumuruk.

“It’s good to underscore that the children were voluntarily returned to military authorities by Chiefs from Gumuruk County of Boma State.” Lul Ruai Kong confirmed.

According to Brig Lul, parents who have lost their children between 2012 and 2016 and are believed to have been recovered should now see Gen. Marial Chanoung of Presidential Guars or David Yauyau.

Although Yauyau has very little academic and political training, he purued theory at Emmanuel Christian College in Yei between 2004 and 2006 and sharply rose to power after weighing 3 years of civil war against Salva Kiir government.

He joined the Kiir-led government after the war broke out in 2013 in hope to consolidate Murle fighting force to put their support behind Salva Kiir.

Although Yauyau did not actually join the 2 years civil war, it is hope that the young general could be a great resource in the future should similar internal fighting break out again.

To political analists, a strategy that put David Yauyau, Johnson Olony and other tough generals from minority tribes at the face of the conflict could weaken theories that seek to project civil war as Dinka-Nuer war.

With the signing of the peace agreement and agreement on cantonment of forces in Equatoria, Bhar el Ghazal and Upper Nile it is believe that South Sudan is moving in the right direction to establish a properous foundation.
