March 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Nuer Community organization, popularly known as BNFA[Bentiu, Nasir, Fangak and Akobo] has urged the regional community to set free the SPLM-IO Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is reportedly under house arrest in Khartoum.

Last week, the SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Foreign Relations, Stephen Par Kuol, confirmed to the Nyamilepedia that his boss – Machar – is in fact under detention in the Sudanese  capital Khartoum.

This came following reports that Machar was being confined to Khartoum and that he was not allowed to move or tour the region until the unity government is formed and he is returned to Juba.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the BNFA said they are asking the region to facilitate the immediate release of the SPLM-IO leader who was previously under detention in South Africa so as to pave way for reconciliation.

“We demand the immediate release of Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon from the confinement and set him free in order to restore back hope and stability among the suffering people of South Sudan,” the statement partly said.

The statement further urged the region and the international human rights “to pressure the government to unconditionally release Mr. Aggrey Idri, Dong Luak among others who were kidnapped in Kenya.”

Following his release in May last year from a South African cell, the IGAD said his final status will be determined in an extraordinary summit of head of stages and government. This summit is yet to be conducted and it remain unclear when Machar is going to be released.
