August 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Former South Sudan SPLA Chief of General Staffs Gen. Paul Malong Awan who in March turned a rebel leader criticized President Salva Kiir’s handshake snub against SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.

Early this month, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir appeared to snub a handshake by the SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar in the Sudanese capital Khartoum: a move that that has generated a public discontent about Kiir’s willingness to leave the past.

In a statement issued on Monday, Malong said sustained and genuine peace deal includes a handshake, smiles and side chats with rivals all of which were snubbed by Kiir on August 5th in Khartoum.

Malong was praising a Troika statement about the ongoing Khartoum peace process whom they said lack guarantees that it will work as desperately needed by the suffering population of the world’s youngest country.

“Its factual that sustained peace, once signed does not exclude exclude genuine brotherly handshakes, smiles and side chats,” Malong said.

Malong further said President Salva Kiir’s body language during his speech at the signing ceremony lack willingness to implement peace in the spirit with the opposition and that the speech were derogatory.

“Nonetheless, Salva Kiir’s body Language during initialing ceremony, his desire to exclude other viable political entities including SSUF/A, the discriminatory and derogatory speeches he utters are extremely cardinal manifestations on the futility of the ongoing negotiations,” Malong further said.
