June 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudanese delegates have resumed the talks on outstanding issues in the Sudanese capital Khartoum this Friday after the warring parties inked a permanent ceasefire agreement many hope would help bring the five-year bloody conflict in the world’s youngest nation to an end.

Officials told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon that the peace talks have resumes this afternoon under the auspices of the Sudanese President Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir who had been tasked by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to reconcile the South Sudanese rivals.

“Yes the peace talks have resumed this afternoon as you have heart and the parties are engaging intensely as I can also tell you,” Gatkuoth Mut, a member of the negotiating team representing the South Sudan opposition Alliance (SSOA) told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon.

Another official told the Nyamilepedia that the parties are making progress and pointed out that he expect the parties would ink a deal that would be finalized in the near future before the African Union summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania next week.

“The talks are progressing well and the parties are engaging intensely and I think there will be a peace plan in place by the near future after the African Union summit in Nouakchott,” he said on the condition of anonymity.

Kiir declared the permanent ceasefire that he and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and has urged troops to remain in their current defensive position and only to act in self-defense in case of attacks by rival forces.

Machar as well have declared the ceasefire that is expected to come into force on Saturday night after the end of the said period.
