Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, the Information Minister said they listened to a presentation on the work plan for peace dissemination in the country and the diaspora.

According to Hon. Makuei, the budget will be used to tour the country, refugee camps and foreign nations where South Sudanese have significant presence.

“The work plan included visiting all the states and the three administrative areas, going to the displaced and refugee camps, and even visiting the other countries in the diaspora where there is a sizable number of South Sudanese so that they can understand the progress being made in the implementation of the agreement and the way forward,” Makuei said.

Makuei, who doubles as the government official spokesman, said the money was already budgeted for peace in South Sudan.

“So, he (peacebuilding minister) is asking that this money should be released from that budget and used for the dissemination of the agreement in the areas of concern” Hon. Makuei said.

“This report was highly appreciated and it was approved and passed by the cabinet.” He added.

In March, parliament allocated the peace-building ministry over SSP 179 million during the 2021/2022 fiscal year approval.

The parliamentary budget scrutiny committee also directed in one of its budget recommendations that the Ministry of Finance and Planning release the budgeted funds to the Ministry of Peace Building for the implementation of peace activities in the country.

Meanwhile, the cabinet in their Friday meeting also listened to a briefing from President Salva Kiir on his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where the latter said he held meetings with the UAE authorities to discuss bilateral relations which went well.

Makuei also revealed that the president’s delegation while in Abu Dhabi also held meetings with investors who showed interest in road construction, agriculture, and animal resources.

“It is worth mentioning that a delegation from the UAE will be coming to South Sudan and they are expected to arrive here (Juba) anytime from now,” Makuei emphasized.
