S. Sudan: Ecobank investigates alleged sexual harassment
July 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Ecobank in South Sudan has issued a statement saying that it has launched an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against some former and current employees.
This comes after social media users circulated allegations that the Bank’s boss in South Sudan was involved in some activities against female employees including exploiting them on sexual grounds.
“We have received reports from some media houses and seen social media posts on allegations of harassment and unfair treatment of some former and current staff of Ecobank South Sudan,” the bank said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
“At Ecobank Group, we uphold high standards of ethics and professionalism in conducting our business and in the actions of our employees. We have Zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment in line with our core values, procedures, and policies.
“Each case reported to the Group is taken seriously and thoroughly investigated, We have an independent whistleblowing portal www.renorts.ethicspoint.com for all staff, customers as well as the general public to report any wrongdoing of whatever nature anonymously.
“This portal is managed by an independent party outside of Ecobank. Every case reported is investigated by our internal audit and reports are treated confidentially with full protection of the whistle-blower.
“The current allegations at Ecobank South Sudan are being taken very seriously and a thorough investigation is being done from the Group, Independent of South Sudan. The results of these investigations will be made available to the Ministry of Labor of South Sudan in line with the Ministry’s agreement with the Bank.”
