S. Sudan information minister in odds with Kiir over return to 10 states – sources

February 17th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan information minister Michael Makuei Lueth is reportedly in odds with President Salva Kiir over the later’s decision to return the country to its original ten states, sources familiar with the matter said.

Kiir on Saturday decided to response to an opposition demand to return the country to its original ten states but created three administrative areas which has been criticized by Machar’s SPLM-IO as well as other opposition groups.

Makuei who is also the government spokesman reportedly refused to attend a high-level gathering of senior government officials including ministers at the state house J1 on Saturday to protest the president’s decision and said he was not feeling well.

“The minister of information is having differences with the president over the return to ten states,” the source said.

“He knew during a meeting on Saturday that the president was going to come out with that information during the meeting on Friday and said on Saturday that he will not be able to attend the meeting sat for Saturday because he was sick,” the source added.
