August 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the opposition group, the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) said on Wednesday that  the IGAD mediation should change its mechanism because it has rewarded impunity.

The People’s Democratic Movement is pa part of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which is made up of 9 armed and non-armed opposition groups fighting the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and at the same time it is one of the SSOA members who declined to sign the agreement early this month.

In an opinion piece published on the Radio Tamazuj, the leader of the People’s Democratic Movement, Hakim Dario said the IGAD peace mediation mechanism should be changed as it rewards impunity in South Sudan.

“Thus, in order for any current or new genuine efforts to succeed and restore peace in South Sudan, the efforts need to shift the focus away from rewarding elites-power sharing to a distinctly people-centric peace-making, one in which the people are active participants in decisions on fundamental matters of their existence and governance,” Dr. Hakim wrote in the opinion article.

Hes said President Salva Kiir will only be known in the history as one of the bad leaders rewarded for impunity by the regional mediation under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit will go down in history as one of the worst rulers rewarded for impunity by none other than IGAD in the newly independent country, South Sudan,” he further wrote.
