The ethnic Targeting killings led the country into a bloody civil war which since then continued for two and half years fitting Kiir’s Dinka tribe against Machar’s Nuer tribe.
In August 2015, a shaky peace deal was signed by Dr Riek Machar Teny on behalf of the armed Opposition and president Salva Kiir on behalf of the South Sudan government which paved way for Machar’s return to Juba in April this year.
However, clashes, which led to Machar’s expulsion from Juba by Kiir, occurred in July between the Government and Opposition troops opening a new chapter of war between the two warring parties.
Since July there has been growing fear that South Sudan is at the brink of another full scale war unless the region and the international community intervene.
