PRESS RELEASE: Lafon County Youth Union Condemns Hon. Naomi Thomas Over Her Reckless Statement

Condemnation of Hon. Naomi Thomas for reckless utterances during the EES Strategy Development Plan 2022-2025 Meeting,

Dec 04, 2021First and foremost, Lafon County Youth Union, wishes to show our deep gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency the Governor for Eastern Equatoria  State, Hon: Louise Lobong Lojore, for standing firm for peace and development in the state.

Dear Hon: governor,

We, the youth of Lafon County, commends your humble leadership approach to restore peace and tranquility in our Eastern Equatoria state and between our people and our neighbors in the spirit of the  Realized Peace Agreement.

On the other hand, the Lafon County youth Union were astonished by an outrageous statement made by Hon. Naomi Thomas during the political leaders’ meeting that was held between 12 -13 November 2021 in Hotel-Torit, saying that “she will not betray her own community by mentioning Lafon as the name of the County that she will not and never shall it be over her dead body”.

In her statement, Hon. Naomi claimed she could not recognize Lafon County but first, who is she? Of course, there are many answers, to  this question, based on her statement:

  1. She is ignorance and clueless about Lafon county history,
  2. She is an enemy of peace in Eastern Equatoria and South Sudan as a whole based on her controversial stance against the Lafon county people,
  3. She is biting on the hand that feeds her given that she made it to the national parliament on Lafon county ticket,
  4. And many more.

Most importantly, she needs to understand that Lafon county is a constitutional constituency that is legally, naturally and physically recognized by the people of South Sudan and as such if she can’t recognize what is naturally and constitutionally legitimized, then she doesn’t know the law and doesn’t deserve to be a lawmaker not only in the national parliament but also in Eastern Equatoria or any where in South Sudan.

To our surprise, His Excellency, the Governor, Hon. Louise Lobong Lojore, has made it very clear in the conference and stood firm for the rights of the common people but a mere member of parliament came out to contradict such a popular demand and constitutional rights of our people.

Dear H.E. Governor,

The Hon. Commissioner of Lafon county has done a tremendous work by uniting the two communities, Pari and Lopith, between which the enemy of peace wanted to create another enmities by instigating violence for their cheap selfish interest and gains simply because of their ignorance.

To make the matter worst, Hon. Naomi has never even visited her own constituency and therefore, we are politely inviting her to make her obligatory visit to Lafon County as the Honorable MP to visit her constituency and witness the cordial peaceful  coexistence between the two communities of Pari and Lopith. Without Pari community, Lopith people would have testified and chased her out from her own village..

Thus, her controversies are causing havoc in the community because of her cunning behaviors. We are hereby condemning her in the strongest terms possible because whatever she claimed is unproven and baseless and as such we believe her statement mounts to incitement and is therefore unlawful.

The Lafon County Youth Union therefore concludes that such a leader deserves dismissal from Parliament or banned from holding any public office. We also demand the SPLA -IO to take disciplinary action against her because she wants to cause conflict in Lafon County and Eastern Equatoria State.

The Lafon county issues were amicably resolved by the two communities in 2021 after 17 years in conflict. We are putting her on notice that should anything happen between our two lovely communities she will be held responsible. We are  requesting her to resign with immediate effect from the Parliament in the name of Lafon County if she cannot recognize Lafon as the name of the County.

We also ask the Council of State to take no notice of this dishonest person and her cronies who are trying to cause confusion in Lafon County. Please remove the issue of the Lafon County from your minds and abrogate it from the resolutions.

Our recommendations are as follow:

(1) Hon. Naomi must apologize to the public of the Republic of South Sudan, Eastern Equatoria state government and Lafon County people because of her disgracefulness.

(2) Hon. Naomi must resign from Parliament as Lafon County MP.

(3) Should anything happen between the two communities, Hon. Naomi will be answerable

(4) That the SPLA IO should summon her for growing misconduct and the incitements of violence in the communities.

(5)  We also warn the Council of State not to play politics and leave the Lafon County name as it is.

(6). That Hon. Naomi must withdraw her aggravated words and stop inciting violence in our communities.
