Opinion: The Demonstrations Led by only Dinka-Bor in Jonglei State Amount to Partial Declaration of Return to War-Like Rhetorics

Aug 15, 2022 — In Jonglei State, there has been a series of unlawful demonstrations going on and off for some times. The move was known to many citizens of Jonglei State as well as the national that, it is being concocted by certain disgruntled political dissidents from Dinka-Bor whose aims are to mobilize, motivates and induce Dinka-Bor community predominantly the residents of Bor town into an organized interruption of law and order. Not even a quarter of the population inhabited Jonglei State said to be partakers in demonstration.

Meanwhile, one county ‘community out of the nine (9) Counties staged the so-called “demonstration” that people of South Sudan keep earshot on Social Media of the frequent march to the streets in Bor town. Tribally motivated youth and women incited and bust to the motorways in the State capital –Bor demanding for unrealistic and irrelevant claims. Any issue related to the public service ‘payment or un-payments of its employees ‘arrears and/or salaries, that solely concerning the employees/workers with those government institutions that employed them. Not everybody in a particular community concerns whence he/she is not an employee of the certain institution.

There is no logical justification whatsoever that, Dinka-Bor community alone has a reason to collectively fight for others. Likewise, the Dinka-Bor community in Jonglei State is not the only particular community/county having employees with the State government ‘public services. If there had to be a genuine outstanding issue associated with the unpaid arrears, everyone concerned would have been partaken in that protest. Hence! There are accurate indicators that the issue of monthly arrears the demonstrators alleged as a pretext has been solved.

All the time, there is no connection between (even if it is well established the Trade Union) and the public servants ‘salary. When any similar tension arises, there is an existing government ‘Workers Union. If for example (the body is not in place per now, it is surely going to be established. Workers Union is the only body which has the capacity of overseeing the relationship between state government and its subordinate’s workforces.

Trade Union’s role is solely defined and delineated whether in Jonglei State and/or everywhere. The Union’s power is not more than supervising the local economic policy operation at the market. The issue of tax, levies, duties, tariff and excise. There is no legally binding ‘acquiescence’ that allows the so-called Bor Trade Union to organize a violence protest against the State government for payment or nonpayment of the public service employees’ arrears. And, because the group and/or those personalities involved in running of the Dinka-Bor Trade Union are accessible and easy to attract them with money as part of business by external spoilers. Therefore, the organizers are paid to facilitate the violent moves.

More importantly, the group’s power behind the throne was known only by its nature as a “tribalized political antagonism”. It is a trudge projected by the disgruntled antagonists amongst the Dinka-Bor community who want and tirelessly toiling day and night to destabilize the current governor of Jonglei State ‘leadership stability. They (Dinka-Bor) Community’ members are desperately trying everything to tarnish Governor Denay Jock’s political image. They are targeting the Governor on the basis that, he (Hon. Denay) is not from Dinka-Bor but a Number from Lou. Their aim and objective is only one (i.e. removal of the sitting Governor of Jonglei State.

Therefore, the power behind this interest is clear that Bor regards none-Bor-governor of Jonglei State as an alien who only came to invade them. They have that mentality of “Jonglei for only Dinka-Bor” despite the Dinka-Bor community being less than a quarter of the Jonglei State population. It’s a wrong perception that an entire community fails to accept the reality as it is. The very reason for this imaginary delusion by the Dinka-Bor community is purely ethnocentrism.

The mood of their demonstrations is through violence methods. They attacked the Governor’s residence and not the State government’s institution concerns. The demonstrators who are tribally brainwashed exceed orderly stages and tent to fight the Governor’s security personnel with stones, sticks and spears. The demonstrators are accompanied by criminal gangsters (Bor youth) who exploit the disruption of the law and order to plunder properties and harass peaceful residents from other none-Bor ‘communities in order to compel them into the same tribally inspired and violence activism against the State government. Attack on the Governor’s residence (home) and looting constitutes crimes and, it magnifies a partial declaration of the return back to the war-like rhetoric.

Not only that Dinka-Bor are today sleepless of disquieting Hon. Denay’s gubernatorial tenant, whoever comes as the Governor of Jonglei, provided that he/she is not from Dinka-Bor, still they wouldn’t cease to carry on the same degrading attempts. For the general public and, particularly the government (R-TGoNU), there is a time you all will acknowledge the motive behind the ongoing trends of partial protests carried on by only the Dinka-Bor community against the sitting government of Jonglei State.

You could imagine it was unfair that one county ‘community out of the nine (9) is frequently staging violence demonstrations. And, the theme of their pomposity is “down down to the governor”. That makes the mood and pretext of the protest widely not marching. If the protest ‘objective was an advocacy on behalf of the public services ‘employees whose monthly arrears said to be missed, the demonstration once started would have ended at the State Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning ‘premise. The demonstration ‘chanting slogans were to be of “demanding payment” and not “demanding Governor’s stepping down”. If there were to be an attention-required question about unpaid public servants ‘arrears, the demo would have been inclusive and not only one county out of nine Counties could be dancing alone.

Even though, governor cannot be removed by one tribalized community of one county out of the nine (9) abstained, there is no genuine reason apart from Dinka-bor ethnocentric political antagonism that influences Bor’s ongoing politically tribalized and motivated protest. Yet, there is no established Trade Union which is inclusively embodying the whole State trade and business apparatus. Every County out of the nine has its own trade association that makes one group ridiculous if they pretend to be the sole representative.

If they (Bor community members) who are inciting such a violence demonstration amongst their community were to be somehow realistic, they would have sensed how others South Sudanese are receiving Bor’s divisive and arrogant behavior toward the Governor of Jonglei State for no reason.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
