Opinion: Dr. Machar, Gatwech and Olony Must Sit Down to Discuss and Dissolve Kitgwang-Magenis Incident

By Ustaz Gatwich Koang Toang,

Aug 12, 2021 — In fostering relationships among community members, comrades in struggle, team members, and family members, communication is of utmost importance. Take it as advice and suggestions in the same way about the Magenis fight which happened yesterday.

I’m saying GatMachar,  Gatdual, and  Johnson Olony, must sit down and discuss their internal problems. Short of this, Kitguang(Magenis)’s incident will never come to an end and its consequences will not be in our favor. Mark my word here.

The war between the trio will disturb and spoil the R-ARCSS and this will not be in our favor all of us as South Sudanese in general and SPLM-IO of Machar or that of Gen. Simon Gatwech and General. Johnson Olony in particular or even those in other political parties who are now advocating for war among SPLM-IO senior members.

To the Nuer community in and outside the country, we need to sit down and talk. Many of those days used to discuss their problems among themselves. They discuss their internal and external grievances among themselves. So, our problem today is that we don’t communicate, we don’t follow our issues and solve them through peaceful discussion. Not all issues are being solved through barrels of guns.

Both as team members and Comrades in struggles, we need to talk, not fight, on this issue of Magenis(Kitguang). Communication is the dynamic that builds connections between leaders and their followers, among community members, friends, and family members respectively. Communication cements relationships. It helps create credibility in the leader(s) and that trust and confidence are so crucial to success.  And because it creates such a warm atmosphere for all, we must immediately go back to our elderly people at home and ask them for the way forward and the key effective communication is the one-to-one relationship. The moment we entered into this special relationship, with another person, the very nature of our communication with them. We begin to build trust and confidence in each other. Nothing happens in leadership without good communication. No leader can lead without connection in some way with the people.

The only best option for us all both as community or political leaders to solve what happened in Kitguang/Magenis is for us to develop a new way of communication among ourselves. This always helps transfer what’s in the mind and hearts of the leaders to all those who follow.

Therefore, Gatdual, Gatmachar, and Gen. Johnson Oliny must sit down and talk.
