June 28th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudanese Women’s  monthly forum held state consultations with women in Rumbek on the on-going peace revitalization process in Addis Ababa Ethiopia which has been the hope of many South Sudanese for the return to normalcy.

The forum is a coalition that brings different women together to focus their ideas on peace in the country and how to achieve sustainable peace in the young African country which has been marred in a bloody civil war since December 2013.

Elizabeth Achot, WMF representative said that the forum is comprised of 42 women groups and has a membership of 81 individual women leaders from across the country.

“The forum aims at strengthening women’s voices and promotes more inclusion of women voices to be heard in the peace process,” she further added.

Achot said the forum is expanding its activities from national to the community level with the aim of empowering and engaging women at the local levels to effectively participate in the ongoing peace processes between the South Sudan government and dozens of armed and non-armed opposition groups.

“This will engage voice of women to reach national and international level and their representatives in order to build the bridge between women at state and the national level,” she said in the meeting.

Agum Joseph Kuch, Chairperson of Lakes state General women’s Association told the press that the forum will add women’s voices in the peace process. She said South Sudanese social cohesion has been spoils by division and rebellions of our leaders in the country.

Chairlady also reveal that women recommend meeting President Kiir, Dr. Riek Machar and other political leaders if they fail to sign peace for South Sudanese this time.

The women monthly forum with support from the SUCCESS project and
USAID is working closely with peace partners in south Sudan to enable
women across the country.
