October 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit is reportedly extending the pre-transitional period for six months according to sources familiar with the matter.
One source told the Nyamilepedia that Kiir has found it difficult to form a government without main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, and has considered extending the pre-transitional period for six months.
“It is difficult,” the source said. “He has considered forming the government after another six months starting from November 12.”
Another source said the parties will meet in Addis Ababa at the beginning of November to discuss the terms of extension.
“The parties will meet next week in Addis Ababa to discuss the term of that extension,” the source said.
While Kiir insisted on government formation in November, Machar who is a powerful figure in the country’s politics, said he will not participate in that government.
This, Machar said, is because a unified army, police and national security service need to be in place for a stable transition to be ensured.
