July 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States of America is seeking to secure enough votes for its draft resolution which call for arms embargo on South Sudan which it says has violated international laws.
The council members at the UN Security Council are expected to slap an arms embargo on the world’s youngest nation early today should the United States manage to secure the nine votes needed for its success.
A source at the UN said the US Government had secured at least seven votes, however, some UN council members bitterly argues that enforcing measures on South Sudan at this critical point, would be counterproductive to peace efforts being mediated by the IGAD.
On Thursday, the country’s lawmakers  passed a Constitutional Amendment Bill that would allow South Sudan’s President to lead the country for another three years until 2021, a move condemned strongly by the SPLM-IO leader by the country’s FVP Dr. Riek Machar.
Attempts by the US to impose a global arms sanctions on South Sudan have been opposed several time by Russia and China, due to the fact that the two countries have vested interests in the oil-rich nation.
