Three aid workers killed in Central Equatoria

October 30th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Three aid workers including a female have been killed in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria region during fighting between government and holdout opposition group, NAS, early this week.

The National Salvation Front (NAS) said in a statement on Tuesday that it was attacked by government forces and said around 17 government soldiers were killed in the attack the statement said was thwarted.

The IOM in a statement that “IOM volunteers, one female and two males, were caught in a crossfire during clashes that broke out in the morning hours of 27 October in Isebi, in Morobo County.”

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleagues and we extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and friends,” IOM South Sudan Chief of Mission, Jean-Philippe Chauzy said in Juba.

We call for the perpetrators of these senseless acts of violence against innocent civilians and humanitarians to be brought to justice,” Chauzy added.

Two other male volunteers suffered non-life threatening injuries, one of whom is recovering from a gunshot wound,” they IOM statement said.

A female volunteer and a four-year-old son of the murdered female aid worker were abducted during the attack. Their whereabouts remain unknown.”
