January 16th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s intelligence chief Abu Bakr Damplab has rendered his resignation a day after fighting between members of his agency, the General Intelligence – and members of the Sudan armed forces in the capital Khartoum.
The fighting which resulted in the killing of six people including two civilians began on Tuesday after a group of intelligence members tried to resist reforms.
The fighting lasted throughout the day extending to Wednesday morning.
Member of the intelligence agency also mutinied in El-Obied, the capital of North Kordofan state over the same cause.
Speaking to the Sudan TV on Wednesday, Sudan’s Sovereignty Council leader Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said he has been notified by the intelligence chief of his decision to resign following the fighting which sparked panic in Sudan’s most populated city.
“He notified me of his resignation by phone and asked him to submit a written resignation,” al-Burhan said adding that his resignation was “under consideration”.
Al-Burhan said they have formed an investigation committee to determine the cause of this mutiny and the people who stand behind it.
“We are awaiting the results of the investigation to determine who is behind the events, who is planning, who instigated and who carried out. We will judge whoever caused the incidents, whether the shooting or closing the streets.”
