SPLM members deny Peter Lam Both appointment as SPLM Acting Secretary General

Juba, South Sudan

August 21,2021 — Members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) under the chairmanship of Salva Kiir have rubbished the reports that SPLM spokesman, Peter Lam Both was appointed as SPLM’s caretaking Secretary General.

The group who questioned the status of Lam’s appointment are said to be an elements allied to senior SPLM member and county’s former minister of defense Gen. Kuol Manyang Juk who is allegedly said to have been defeated by Peter Lam over party position.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, the SPLM cadre who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party spokesman, Peter Lam Both was not officially appointed by party leader Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit as successor of Jemme Nunu Kumba but was only nominated during SPLM Political Bureau Meeting which can be revoked at anytime adding that it doesn’t make sense to celebrate the nomination of someone who was not officially announced.

” I would like to assure you that those who are celebrating on media are not informed with legal procedures because you cannot celebrate nomination which is not publicly announced with a signed document what about if the decision is revoked”, The SPLM Cadre who requested anonymity told Nyamilepedia from Juba.

“Cde. Peter Lam Both was chosen to be an alternative to the position but so far the official appointment hasn’t been released yet, hence, anyone who claims he is Acting Secretary General is a liar because there is no written document about his appointment but he has been designated “, he added.

According to earlier reports, Lam was reported to have won the position of the Secretary General of the SPLM Party replacing South Sudan’s Former Minister of Parliamentarian Affairs Jemme Nunu who was appointed recently as the first female cadre to occupy the top seat in national parliament.
