August 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLA) has blamed opposition forces, the SPLA-IO led by the country’s former First Vice-president Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon for lacking a unified central command viable in observing a ceasefire agreement.
On Tuesday night, fighting erupted in Kuergeng between SPLA-IO forces and South Sudan Army with both sides blaming other for attacking the other.
In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Thursday, SPLA official spokesperson Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said the army attribute the violation by the SPLA-IO to the lack of unified central command that enforces orders to respect the signed ceasefire.
“There is no unified command for the SPLA-IO. Everyone is acting on his own thinking because most of the generals on the ground are all civilians and do not respect the ceasefire declaration by Riek Machar,” Lul said.
He pointed out that most of the SPLM-IO leadership, both political and military, are based in Khartoum and low ranking officers are left with the orders in their hands.
“You know the fact that most of the SPLM/A (IO) leadership is in Khartoum. They are based there both political and military leadership. The ones who are here in South Sudan are mostly civilians and do not respect the declared ceasefire on their own,” he added.
