South Sudan’s Kiir invited to Ethiopia for ‘new year’ celebration

August 15th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has been invited to Ethiopian by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to attend the celebration for Ethiopian New Year on September 11, 2019.

Ethiopia, unlike the rest of the world, has its own calender and on September 11th 2019 will mark January 1st 2012.

According to a Presidency statement, the invitation was delivered to President Kiir by Ethiopian former President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu.

“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit this afternoon received an invitation from the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali to join in the celebration of the Ethiopian new year,” the statement by the presidency partly read.

“The invitation was delivered by the former Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu. The celebrations will be on the 12 of September this year, under the theme ‘Peace and Stability’,” the statement added.
