South Sudan warns employees after a court sentenced three men to 4 years in prison for forging education

Oct 22, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The ministry of General Education has warned the people who used fake academic certificates to secure jobs saying that it will ensure they lose those jobs.

Simon Nyok, the Secretary General of the South Sudan Examination Council, said that some government employees are now holding fake bachelor’s and Master’s’ degrees.

“…even some people are working in this country with fake Master’s degrees; others with fake Bachelor’s degrees,” Simon Nyok told reporters in Juba.

“This institution is working with other institutions to ensure such people are punished; people will lose their jobs,” Nyok added.

Mr. Nyoks’ call came after a court in Juba sentenced three men to prison for forging South Sudan School Certificates and other crucial documents.

The three,  Khalid Baballa, Ladu Lawrence Ladu and Kenyi Mark Peter were each convicted to 4 years in prison.

They are believed to have been behind production of counterfeit secondary school and university certificates in the country.

According to South Sudan laws, the three were supposed to serve a seven years imprisonment term for the crime but the three pleaded for leniency resulting in the reduction of their prison terms.

“After listening to all the accused, and because there is no single reported case in a newspaper, and also looking at the nature of the crime, the court decided to sentence them to four in jail, starting on 22 October 2020,” Justice Deng Ajak said when reading out the verdict on Thursday.

According to the penal court act 2008, whoever imitates or alters any key or fabricates any instrument intending that such false key or instrument shall be used for a criminal purpose, upon conviction, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years and may also be liable to a fine.
