March 26, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has suspended the training of the Necessary Unified Forces over fears of the deadly coronaviris.

Registered troops from the former warring parties in the country are collected at various sites in Upper Nile, Bhar El Ghazal and Equatoria regions for training and subsequent integration into a unified army, as provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.

The Joint Transitional Security Committee JTSC said on Thursday that it has put all trainings on hold with immediate effect in line with national guidelines banning large gatherings.

Secretary of the JTSC – Olaw Deng says movement in and out of the sites has been prohibited.

South Sudan is one of the few countries around the world with no confirmed cases of the virus which began from the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

A number of suspected cases in the country’s capital Juba and some states have tested negative for the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

South Sudan’s neighbors, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia, have all confirmed cases of the virus.
