October 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan rebels have been urged to give up their guns and join the ongoing peace process.

The government and several opposition groups signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the six-year old civil war which has killed around half a million.

Other groups such as those represented by South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSNDA) led by General Thomas Cirillo and South Sudan United Front (SSUF) led by former army chief General Paul Malong rejected the agreement and demands the reopening of the agreement for renegotiation.

Rene Ilume Tembele, DR Congo ambassador to Juba congratulated President Kiir’s government for signing peace deal with the opposition.

He further urged holdout rebel groups still fighting the government to give up fighting and join the ongoing process.

ā€œI would like to congratulate the government for its effort to bring back peace to South Sudan,ā€ Ambassador Tembele.

ā€œWe hope that this effort will be understood by our brothers and sisters who are still in the bush so that they lay down their guns in order to bring peace to their beloved country,ā€ he added.
