July 18th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudanese minister has wrote to the South Sudanese president Salva Kiir urging him to suspend talks with opposition after the Sudanese mediation unveiled a new power sharing deal to parties on Monday.

The proposal called for a presidency with five vice presidents and a government with 35 ministers which shall be divided by the parties and the government would have the lion’s share of 20 ministers, SPLM-IO 10 ministers and the other parties to divide the other five.
In an internal memo seen by the Nyamilepedia, the minister in the office of the president, Mayiik Ayii Deng, wrote to President Kiir urging him to consider withdrawal from the peace process saying the proposal seek to saw seeds of hatred between South Sudanese.
“This proposal is ominous in a sense that it tries to sow seeds of division in the country and tries to fuel the conflict further,” the minister said in the memo.
The minister, in citation of the above reasons, said the government should reject the proposal and the talks should be suspended another mediator to take over the IGAD role to mediate.
“This proposal should be rejected, and talks suspended immediately until a new mediator is found. What is more is that this proposal smells like it was written post-arms embargo and seems to see government as vulnerable to take anything it presented to it,” the internal memo said.
The minister said the government should suspend all the negotiations to protest the recent arms embargo and the proposal which it said aimed at dividing South Sudan along ethnic and regional lines.
“The government should suspend all negotiations both in response to the arms embargo and this proposal. The government should further outline parameters within which the next rounds of talks would be bound,” the minister further said in the memo.
