This comes after the country’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the auspices of Hon. Peter Mayen Majongdit requested funds to respond to natural calamity.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, South Sudan’s Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth who also doubles as government official spokesman says the flood affected population needs urgent gears to confront the devastating catastrophe.

“They need to supply emergency equipment to the people who are affected by the flood and then also flooding intervention,” said Michael Makuei in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.

According to UNOCHA report, more than 630,000 people have been negatively affected by the flash floods in 27 counties across South Sudan and the Greater Upper Nile states such as Unity State, Upper Nile State and Jonglei State are the worst affected, leaving at least 58 percent of the people severely affected.

Western Bahr El-Ghazal and Northern Bahr el Ghazal are also vastly affected.

According to the statement, the statistic of the people in a dire need of humanitarian assistance rose up in September. 75% of the flood-affected counties faced high levels of food insecurity.

“…people who are displaced are the most affected and after the floods have subsided, they need to be resettled. So this budget was approved and the minister was directed to monitor all the areas,” Makuei added.

Last week, his holiday Pope Francis donated $75,00 thousand dollars to South Sudan to help the citizens and areas submerged by the flood.

As per the Minister of Information, Michael Makue Lueth, the cabinet has approved 10 million dollars to assist all flood victims across the country.
