South Sudan and Turkey to boost their military cooperation.

August 26, 2021—South Sudan’s Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Angelina Teny announced on Sunday that the Republic of South Sudan and Turkey will work hand in hand to strengthen their military cooperation.

This comes less than a week after Teny returned from Turkey on Sunday after spending a week of state visit in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.

Addressing the media on Sunday, South Sudan’s Minister of Defense, Anglina Teny said she discussed with her Turkish counterpart a cooperation in the military aspect especially things do with training of the forces.

“We have discussed a lot and it was a very fruitful discussion that would have a good future for South Sudan, a future that would help us transit to proper democracy,” Minister Teny said.

Teny stressed that the government of Turkey promised to support South Sudan’s security sector.

“We have discussed the possibility of support for South Sudan which is in process for the implementation of chapter two of the agreement, unification of forces and support for the transformation of our army forces,” she added.

She said they met with the Minister of Defense and discussed the possibility of working together.

“We will have another visit this month to discuss the possibility of cooperation especially on military industry and production,” she further emphasized.

The two ministers drafted  an agreement that Teny brought to Juba to be vetted by other senior government officials before the two ministers will meet again to finalize it in a few weeks.
