Security of South Sudan Depends on the implementation of R-ARCISS ~ Dr. Machar

Dec 2, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s First Vice President and the leader of the armed opposition, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, reiterates that the only way the country can have peace and stability is if the revitalized peace agreement is implemented in letter and spirit.

Speaking during the 6th National Conference of the SPLM/A-IO, Dr. Machar said that the parties to the peace agreement are in the process of implementing the R-ARCSS so that South Sudan can achieve sustainable peace in the country.

“The parties to the Agreement are currently engaged in the process of implementation of R-ARCSS with the overarching objectives of achieving sustainable peace, security and transition to democracy. This is in line with the African Union (AU) theme of “silencing the guns…2020” as well as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2532 (2020) on Universal Ceasefire in conflict areas,” Machar said.

The leader of the opposition stressed that the security of South Sudanese and their properties is dependent on the implementation of the agreement.

Machar went on to say that the R-ARCSS offers the solution to the civil war and political violence that has been going on in South Sudan for seven years.

“The R-ARCSS offers the best opportunity for the country to put an end to the tragic civil war and political violence that have engulfed and wrecked the country for the past seven years,” he went on.

According to Machar, the R-ARCSS offers the people of South Sudan an opportunity for reconciliation, healing and development.

“There is no alternative to building and sustaining peace in the country other than the R-ARCSS,” he said.

Machar also blamed the political disagreements within the ruling Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) over issues of vision, direction, internal democracy and governance for the political crisis that has been experienced in South Sudan since 2013.

He urged the president to do more in the implementation of R-ARCSS so as to bring peace and security in South Sudan.
