Speaking at the 5th Governors’ Forum yesterday, President Kiir said he won’t end his speech without acknowledging the tremendous efforts exerted by Governor Gen. Riny Tueny Mabor for stabilizing the security situation in Lakes State.

“Before I end my speech of the closing of this 5th Governors’ Forum, I must applaud the great work done by Gen. Rin Tueny in Lakes State. That now people are able to move freely without fear, was unthinkable before”,President Kiir said in a statement.

Lakes State is one of the most troubled states in South Sudan but since Governor Tueny was appointed five months ago, the security situation has improved significantly according to president Kiir, and now people can walk freely without any fear across Lakes state.

During his inauguration, Governor Tueny said he won’t spare anyone found guilty of committing crimes across Lakes state and so far he has done so which has sparked accusations and condemnations from rights organizations who believe that Tueny could easily abuse his powers.

The governor of Lake State and that of Warrap have been accused of extrajudicial executions of people who are suspected to have violated their orders in the states; however, the two governors have denied the accusations.
