Malong: Gatdet’s demise a ‘great loss’ to South Sudan

April 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former army chief turned rebel leader, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, on Wednesday said in a condolence message that the demise of General Peter Gatdet which occurred in the Sudanese capital on Monday night is a big loss to South Sudan.

Gatdet – relatives and close aides told the Nyamilepedia on Monday night – died in the Sudanese capital Khartoum at a private hospital from a heart attack following a short battle against high-blood pressure.

In a statement on Wednesday and extended to the Nyamilepedia, Malong said the demise of the strong South Sudanese army and rebel general is a big loss to to the country.

“The South Sudan United Front leadership learned the sudden death of General Peter Gadet, we at a loss of words for what to say to console the family of late Chairman of South Sudan United Movement (SSUM),” he said in the statement.

“It is a great loss for the nation. Please accept SSUF leadership deepest condolences. We Know that nothing can take away the shock and pain that his family [are] feeling for the loss,” he added.
