October 28,2021— Latest reports from Western Equatoria alleged that the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces carried out offensives against the South Sudan United Army under the leadership of Gen. Paul Malong Awan in Western Equatoria State on Tuesday.
In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, the Military spokesman of SSUA, Col. Akol Akol Kel says their forces were attacked at Mapuoi Payam of Ibba County in Western Equatoria State by the SSPDF loyal to Salva Kiir Mayardit.
“South Sudan United Front office of military spokesman takes this opportunity to inform the general readership, South Sudanese and our supporters in fraternity about the malicious act taken by the bloody regime forces to again attacked our position in the noon hours of yesterday October 26,2021 at around 4:00pm local time “, Akol said in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
The senior opposition spokesman claimed that their forces repulsed the attacking SSPDF but their forces sustained a few injuries.
“In the process of pursuing the attackers, we incurred minor injuries with minimum losses.” Akol said.
Akol said the fighting between their forces and SSPDF ended in “their favor”, claiming that their forces captured SSPDF barracks at Mapuoi and their weapons.
“The regime forces were given a bloody nose with garrison overrun, 9AKMS assault riffles and one PKM machine gun captured in good mechanical conditions and I can overtly inform you that Mapuoi joined operation garrison is currently under our full control”,Akol confidently assured in a statement.
According to the statement, Akol reaffirms their full commitment to the Rome initiative for peace in South Sudan but he cautioned the SSPDF from attacking their positions or else they would respond such provocative actions in massive scale in multiple front-lines.
