July 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar said he is ready to meet President Salva Kiir face-to-face in Juba if the later and the region lifted some restrictions on his freedom.

The prominent opposition politician said in a letter to South Sudan’s Presidential Advisor on Security Tutkew Gatluak that he is ready to sit down with Kiir face-to-face if a series of demands he laid down in the letter are met.

“I believe this is the time to evaluate the process as two months of extended period have passed without substantial progress,” Machar wrote.

South Sudan descended into a bloody civil war in December 2013 two years after gaining independence from Sudan.

Among the demands, Machar said he must be allowed to travel freely to countries under the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional grouping.
