Juba, South Sudan,

July 13, 2021 – South Sudan First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has been urged by Bright Horizon Trading Company to settle a $300,000 arrear accumulated by his office in car hire in 2016.

The company’s Managing Director, Ernesto Mali Mongomngo said the car was hired by Major General Yey Dak Wei, the Undersecretary National Committee for Finance and Resource Mobilization for the SPLM/A-IO for a period of two months.

He said the agreement was reached in April 2016 prior to the second round of the conflict adding that Yey, who is the SPLA-IO Head of National Security later signed a separate contract to permanently buy the car.

According to the document obtained by Nyamilepedia, the car was a V6 with the plate number CE940AP with engine number IGPA-265957 that uses petrol.

The director says the total amount owed to Bright Horizon Trading Company is $330,000 as of 2016. The amount was due for payment within two months.

“When Dr. Machar returned to Juba nearly 2 years ago, his office promised to pay us, but they have been dodging to pay,” Mali was quoted Eye Radio to have said.

Maj. Gen. Martin Abucha, the Office Manager of Machar has been accused by the company of blocking efforts to meet the First Vice President.

“This issue has taken long – more than 5 years – because of those within Machar’s office, they are the obstacles – especially his office manager by the name of Major General Martin Abucha,” Mali alleged.

When contacted for comment, Abucha said “I’m very much aware. These people have to come to the office.”

However, Godfrey Mongomongo, Ernesto Mali’s son, said even if they visit the office, Abucha’s “secretary will tell us that he is not around, he is out of the office.” The family is considering filing a lawsuit.
