Mabaan Community calls on the SPLM/A-IO to relocate its forces

Juba, South Sudan,

May 8, 2021  — Meeting the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny in his office, the Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State, Hon. James Tor Monybuny, who spent one week in Mabaan resolving conflicts in the area, said the people of Mabaan are calling on the SPLM/A-IO to relocate its forces from Liang Cantonment area of Mabaan county.

According to Dr. Machar’s press secretary office, Hon. Monybuny briefed the First Vice President on numerous issues that are affecting his state and specially Mabaan county where forces of SPLA-IO have clashed with the locals.

“H.E. The First Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, was briefed in his office on Wednesday, 5th May, 2021, by the Deputy Governor of Upper Nile state, Hon. James Tor Monybuny, on the general situation in the state.” Read part of a statement from Dr. Machar office.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hon. Monybuny emphasized on his recent peace mission to Mabaan county during which he interacted with the community in attempt to resolve recent conflicts.

 Mr. Monybuny said in one of the resolutions coming out from the meetings, the community requested a possibility of relocating the SPLA-IO forces from Liang cantonment site to another suitable location.

“We have been in Mabaan for the last one week, as part of the resolutions that were discussed to resolve the conflict in Mabaan, one of which was to relocate the SPLA-IO cantonment site at Liang and we have delivered the letter to the First Vice President to consider the request of the community to relocate the forces from Liang.” Deputy Governor James Tor Monybuny said.

Monybuny, however assured of the peaceful co-existence among the communities of Upper Nile state.

“We have briefed him and shared the peace implementation at the state level, in Upper Nile we are doing very well” He said.
