Kiir sworn in Hussein Abdelbaggi as vice-present for S. Sudan Opposition Alliance

February 23rd 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan president Salva Kiir Mayardit has sworn in Hussein Abdelbaggi as the 5th vice-president for South Sudan Opposition Alliance, Kiir’s office has confirmed.

Ateny Wek Ateny, president Kiir’s press secretary said the son of South Sudan’s long-time war-lord was sworn in on Sunday before President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the ticket of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).

“H.E Hussein Abdelbagi Akol has taken oath of office as Vice President on SSOA ticket,” Ateny said.

This comes after the opposition consortium failed to nominate a candidate after internal wrangling over who would take the position.

Kiir on Saturday sworn in main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny as first vice president.

Ex-first vice president Taban Deng, James Wani Igga and Rebecca Garang were also sworn in as vice presidents in accordance with the revitalized peace agreement.
