August 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit said on Wednesday that he will not accept the dissolution of the current controversial thirty-two states but says he will give some to the opposition groups.

Kiir was speaking during a meeting with the state governors in the capital Juba in which he briefed and directed the governor to go and disseminate the peace agreement which he signed with the opposition groups early this month.

The opposition groups want the return from the current thirty-two to initial and constitutional ten states but the government said such move will complicate the problem further between the communities.

“We will not return to ten or go to twenty-one [states] as they (opposition), that will not be a good solution to the states issue,” Kiir said.

He said he is ready to give 14 states to the opposition groups as part of the peace implementation saying he will also give almost half of the counties to the opposition.

“The government will have only 18 out of the current 32 states and that means the remaining 14 states will have to go to the opposition, so the government will have 18 states and 18 governors. The opposition will have 14 states and 14 governors,” Kiir said adding that “Also out of all the counties in South Sudan, the opposition will take almost half of the commissioners, county councillors although they say that the relative presence of the parties in the area will be taken into account.”
