Investigations about the death of aid worker killed in Akobo are underway.

Juba, South Sudan

July 30, 2021—Officials from South Sudan’s Jonglei State and CARE International announced that investigations are underway in Jonglei State to collect more data on the death of a medical doctor, who worked for the NGO in Akobo.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, a medical doctor identified as Dominic Pitia was found dead at his duty station in Akobo on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.

” Investigations are ongoing into the death of a medical doctor in Akobo”,statement reads.

“Dominic Pitia, an emergency health manager with the humanitarian organization ‘Care International’ was found dead at his duty station in Akobo on Tuesday”, it added.

According to CARE International, the organization is in contact with family members of the deceased about the transportation of the body to Juba but says the cause of his demise is not known so far.

” In a statement released yesterday, CARE international said the organization is in contact with the family for the transportation of the body to Juba. The cause of his death is not clear as investigations are still ongoing”, it emphasized.

Humanitarian workers are being targeted in South Sudan. In May a medical doctor who was identified as Dr. Louis Edward Saleh was killed in Ganyiel Payam of Panyijiar County in Unity State and his fate has never been addressed so far.
