Sat, Nov 14, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Honorable Duer Tut Duer, a former SPLM/A-IO official who is currently waging internal campaigns against Dr. Machar’s leadership, is calling on supporters on social media to boycott the SPLM/A-IO 6th party leadership conference which is currently being organized to kick off in Juba on November 23-27, 2020.
Duer, who was a former governor of one of the now-defunct SPLM/A-IO’s 21 states, felt out with the party leadership following the 2016 incident; however, unlike many others who defected from the SPLM-IO and moved on, he brands himself as a “reformist” from within the SPLM/A-IO.
According to his statement, which was extended to Nyamilepedia, Hon. Duer projects that the SPLM/A-IO party leadership conference will lack transparency.
Among some of the greviances he is raising, he argues that “the National Liberation council(NLC) members and Political Bureau(PB) are not included”.
“Majority of the National Liberation council members and Political bureau have left the movement.” Duer said.
Duer believes that Machar has lost popular support within the movement and as such he shouldn’t call himself a chairman.
“Why are you maintaining the title chairman, meanwhile the entire leadership are no longer with you?” Duer asked.
“Why is it titled the 6th SPLM/A-IO conference, meanwhile the entire Military command are not included?” He continued.
He doubts that Machar will form an interim party leadership, saying that the SPLM/A-IO will not be able to inaugurate the interim party leadership.
“How are you going to inaugurate the interim party leadership, while on the agenda, there’s no indication that an interim party leadership is going to be formed?” Duer asked.
“Which article in the SPLM/A-IO constitution that allows such body (conference) to establish SPLM/A-IO (Interim) leadership?” He continued.
Duer has been raising his concerns over the social media where a handful of his supporters run heads-on with Machar’s diehard supporters.
On the other hand, whether Duer has any military or political support from the SPLM/A-IO leadership remains to be seen; however, he hopes to replace Machar at the Nuer community level as an alternative leader, a dream those of Taban Deng Gai and many other senior Nuer generals and politicians have failed to achieve.
