January 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Some senior government officials are preventing foreigners in the capital Juba to go for registration promising them protection, South Sudan’s Information Minister Michael Makuei have said.
South Sudan’s Minister of Interior Michael Chiengjiek Gey ordered immigration department last week to register foreigners living in the country. The police said over the weekend that hundreds of foreigners who had crossed the border into South Sudan illegally are living without legal documentation.
Speaking to reporters on Friday in the capital Juba, South Sudan’s information minister Michael Makuei Lueth said they have received reports that some foreigner are being prevented by government officials from being registered.
“It is reported that there are even some big shots who are protecting the registration of some of these foreigners,” Makuei told reporters.
The minister urged those protecting foreigners to stay away from being involved in this process vowing that all will be deal with accordingly.
“Those who are protecting others are advised to keep away from that and allow them [the immigration police] to operate. Please anybody who has his own foreigners and he wants to protect them, that is not good,” he said.
“But if you refused and you don’t allow them to register, the day will come when we will decide to evict any unregistered aliens,” he added.
