July 22, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– The leadership of South Sudan’s SPLM/SPLA in Opposition announces the defection of Gen. Taban Deng Gai, the former Chief negotiator and Minister of Mining of Transitional Government of National Unity.
According to a statement released this morning by the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, Taban has defected and all officials must cease official communication with him.
“This is to declare to all members of the SPLM/SPLA(IO) that Taban Deng Gai has defected to the SPLM-IG under President Salva Kiir Mayardit” Said Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
“By this action of defection I have therefore relieved him from his positions as a member of SPLM/SPLA(IO) Political Bureau and the Chairman of National Committee for Reconciliation and Healing” Machar said.
Machar dismised General Taban from the SPLM/SPLA-IO and urge all supporters to terminate communications with the disgruntled general.
“By this, Taban Deng Gai is hereby declared dismissed and no more a member of SPLM/SPLA(IO)” the statement of the First Vice President concludes.
In a different notice report by Machar’s Press Secretary, all senior and junior officials are urged to cut off all official communication with General. Taban.
“Since Hon. Taban Deng Gai has defected from the SPLM/SPLA (IO) and has therefore been relieved by the Chairman and Commader-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) from his positions and membership of the party, all officials (senior and junior) of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) are hereby directed not to have official contacts or meetings with him with effect from July 22, 2016.” Said James Gatdet Dak in a statement from Nairobi, Kenya.
