September 2nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Family members of the the detained civil rights activist Peter Biar Ajak have called for the release of their son who has been put under the custody of the National Security Service since late July 2018.
Peter Biar Ajak was arrested by the National Security apparatuses while leaving the capital Juba for Aweil for a Red Army occasion.
His arrest provoked international condemnation against the brutality of the South Sudan government which has been accused of silencing critics by arresting them.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a family member said he has been able to meet Peter Biar at the Blue House where he is being kept and says he is doing good.
“Yes, I have visited him, he is doing ok. He is currently being detained at Blue House and We’re still not aware of why he’s bring detained,” the family member said on the condition of anonymity.
The family member however said legal procedures are ongoing but could specify whether it is the national security bringing charges against him or the family suing the authorities for arresting him pointing out that they are calling for his release.
“Yes, the legal procedures are underway and [we are] calling for his release,” the family member further added.
