March 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Traditional chiefs in South Sudan’s Warrab state reportedly told President Salva Kiir during his Bahr Al-Ghazal tour that they are not ready to send their children for military service following the signing of the peace agreement.
A government source in Tonj told the Nyamilepedia on Monday that the chief met President Salva Kiir last week shorty after his arrival in the state capital Tonj and before he hold a a public peace rally in the capital.
The source said the chief cited what they called ‘selfless’ sacrifice during the five-year old South Sudan conflict saying they were after all not been appreciated and that they could not continue to cause demise of life of their children when the state is not ready to bring peace in the country.
“All they cited is the sacrifice they said they made selflessly since 2013. They said they rescued the president from Riek and were not appreciated. What they said is that until when the fighting in the country will continue,” the government source told the Nyamilepedia.
The source however denied the government was making recruitment in the state but could not explain to the Nyamilepedia why the traditional chiefs were eager to express their discontent with the alleged military recruitment.
“The government is for peace. The government is not in a position to continue the war and so cannot conscript into teh army,” the source who declined to be named further told the Nyamilepedia.
