Feb 14, 2017(Nyamilepedia) —– Reports from villages in Equatoria confirmed that a government contingent, which was retreating from Lui, has burned down at least 75 civilians houses in Lanyi, Doro and Buagyi.
According to reliable sources in Lanyi, the troops were returning from Lui on February 8th on their way to Jambo but for unknown reason the SPLA tortured civilians and raped as many women as they could capture on their way.
At Doro, Lanyi and Buagyi the SPLA burned tukuls before they proceeded to Jambo where they temporarily settled.
The residents explained to Nyamilepedia that the government forces have raided herds of catle and forced civilians to flee into bushes for their safety.
Speaking to SPLA-IO deputy Chief of Staff for Training, LT. General Wesley Welebe Samson, who commands his forces in adjacent areas, he confirmed the incidents and appealed to the international community to take swipe measures against Salva Kiir government with immediate effect.
Lt. Gen. Wesley Welebe describes the incidents as violations of human rights and international humanitarian law and said perpetuators must be held accountable to their actions.
According to him, many people who are in the bushes outside Mundri town mostly women, children and the elderly are now malnourished and dying daily in Greater Mundri Counties due to lack of humanitarian services, such as medicine, food, clean drinking water and clothing.

Gen. Welebe Refutes Claims on His Defection

While welcoming the recent defection of the SPLA Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistic, Lt. Gen. Thomas Cirillo Swaka, Gen. Welebe Samson calls on SPLM/A-IO supporters and sympathizers to be patience with rumours that he has defected to the government.
“I, LT. General Wesley Welebe Samson, would like to refute the false rumour that I’m planning to defect to the government side.” Welebe said.
According to him, he is determined to continue fighting the Regime of Salva Kiir and is encouraging the youth to join him.
He extends his congratulatory message to LT. General Thomas Cirilo for the bold decision he has taken to resign from what he describes as “the corrupt regime of Salva Kiir.”
