August 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has erupted near Aweil between South Sudan army and rebel soldiers belonging to ex-army Chief General Paul Malong, a rebel spokesman said in a statement.

The fighting, Malong’s spokesman Sunday de’John said in a statement, began this morning in Wanh-Acien area near Northern Bahr El-Ghazal state capital Aweil when South Sudan army contingent laid ambush against Malong’s forces.

Forces belonging to SSPDF have had a deadly clash this morning at Wanh-Acien with SSUF/A forces,” de’John said in a statement.

The fighting that lasted for 2 and half hours came as a result of an ambushed laid by the SSPDF,” he added.

Fighting has been ongoing for weeks in several areas in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal but the army spokesman told the Nyamilepedia on Monday that he was not aware of any fighting between any group and the government.
